This listing is for a CUSTOM MADE to order historically accurate reproduction hooded cloak/mantle. A style that was very popular in the last half of the 18th century and Regency and Romantic era. Suitable for Georgian/Colonial and Regency/Federalist impressions. Jane Austen, 1820's, Little Red Riding Hood and Cos-play events.

This particular cape is drafted based on several extant examples (see last image) in museum collections around the world. This is NOT a simple rectangle gathered onto a hood like many available it is cut to a historically accurate shape and several days work goes into the carefully creation of a cloak like this.

The cloak in your choice of colour from a 100% cotton twill with shaped panels creating the main body of the cloak pleated into a fitted shoulder yoke, a short shoulder cape echoing the styling of gentlemen's greatcoats of the era and a large hood with sunburst pleating at the back. The cloak has slits for the arms to pass through at the front waist or can be worn without. The cloak fastens with cotton tapes or ribbon to match at the neck and is fully lined throughout in lighter weight cotton. The most common colours for these cloaks are scarlet (where the Little red riding hood fairytale comes from), blacks and earthy brown tones.

Many similar extant capes from 1800-30 have an internal waist tape fastening at the front that is sewn to the lining securing the back pleats to cinch in the back waist and create a more fitted look. I have omitted these here but can add them upon request for a small extra charge.

Shipping is Royal Mail 1st class or standard Airmail. These are not tracked services. If you wish the cloak to be sent express and/or with insurance please select the relevant shipping upgrade at the checkout. Shipping costs are based on the size and weight of the parcel.

CUSTOM ORDERS - I am more than happy to recreate this cloak or other styles of mantle wrappings in other sizes, lengths or colours upon request. For a dressier look it could be made in cotton velvet or real or imitation silk taffeta. Just send me a message with your ideas for a quote and current shipping time.

I only accept payment through PayPal or Credit or Debit card via Etsy Direct payments. I am happy to offer layaway payments on orders over £50 this can include multiple purchases to the sum of £50. Please convo me with details of the item/s you would like to purchase and to discuss a suitable payment plan. Full payment MUST be received within 3 months of the item being reserved or you will be refunded any payments made and the item will be relisted for sale. If you are having problems with payment please keep me informed. Items purchased on layaway will dispatched when the final payment has been received. All items are posted out using First Class Royal Mail from the UK unless otherwise agreed. This is NOT a service with tracking. If you require tracking and insurance please let me know before purchase or select the relevant shipping upgrade on the listing.
Please be aware delays do happen. The seller is NOT responsible for delays, damage or lost parcels that may occur after shipping. Please be aware that at certain time of year such as Christmas shipping will be slower than usual due to the increase in post.

Only tracked/express services offer a confirmed delivery time. If you are planning on making a purchase for a specific event I would highly recommend upgrading to this service to ensure it reaches you in time and that you can track its progress door to door.

Express orders will be sent next day Recorded for UK orders and International tracked services will go via Royal Mail tracked or tracked and signed airmail. This is handled by Parcel Force whilst in the UK and past into the destination countries main/national postal provider for express delivery.

Tracked items can be checked on the Royal Mail website using the tracking number given. This is updated by Royal Mail in the UK and by the destination countries postal provided whilst in that country.


As a retailer I am legally obliged to mark custom labels with an item description, contents value and mark it as goods/merchandise. I CANNOT legally as a business send the item marked as a gift when I have received payment/taxable income on the item. If you wish to personally received item and send it on as gift by all means do but I am legally bound to give a honest description of the contents. I know tax/duty is a huge frustration and inconvenience but I cannot break the law. Sorry.

In the event that a refund or exchange is agreed upon the items must be returned carefully packed and insured to the value of the item. The items must be returned clean, unworn and in as new rcondition suitable for resale before a refund will be issued. Damaged, dirty or worn goods will not be refunded. The seller is not responsible for damages that occur in transit. Refunds will be issued via the payment method used to purchase the item be that via PayPal or to the Credit/Debit card used. Please allow 1-3 days for processing.

I am always happy to create custom gowns and accessories to your own designs or work with you to come up with the outfit of your dreams.
All custom items are made in your own choice of fabrics and trimming, supplied by the buyer unless otherwise noted in the listing description or arranged with the seller. A small consultation charge to cover the time spent confirming design details with you and sourcing materials may be charged. Items will be made to the exact measurements supplied by the buyer so be honest!! This is NOT the measurements you would buy in a shop. I highly recommend having someone take the measurements for you as it is near impossible take correct measurements yourself.
In some circumstances such as express orders I may be able to source materials for you locally or use fabrics I may have in stock to save time. Please note this will incur a small charge for my time, travel etc.
Please convo me with your ideas and I will work with you to confirm the design choice, fabric, trims etc. I will then create a custom reserved listing for you with all the finalized design details and appropriate shipping costs. This will appear in the custom orders section of my store and I will inform you as soon as the listing is available to purchase. You will then need to purchase the reserved listing and send your fabric and trims etc. to me. As soon as the parcel has arrived I will contact you to confirm its arrival (please let me know before hand if you are sending it recorded signed for so I can ensure I am in to sign for it). I will then begin creating your design for you.
The completion date of custom orders will depend on my current working schedule and the number of orders I have in at the time. Certain times of year get very busy. I will confirm a delivery date with you before the order is placed. I will keep you updated with the progress of your order and send photographs of the finished item before shipping to confirm you are happy with your purchase. The item will then be carefully packaged and shipped.
